Asset Gifts for Giving Season: 4 Ways Donors Can Give More

Your donors may have more ways to give gifts of wealth, but it's up to your team to discover what's possible
Lauren Patrick
October 1, 2026

Giving Season is when generosity peaks and many donors are planning their year-end taxes. That timing makes it the right moment to talk about asset gifts. Most wealth isn't sitting in checking accounts. It's held in stocks, crypto, donor-advised funds (DAFs), and retirement accounts.

When your organization is ready to accept asset gifts for Giving Season, you give donors more ways to give, and often the gifts are larger and cost donors less with favorable tax benefits. Here are asset-based gift types every nonprofit team should be ready for.

Types of Non-Cash Asset Gifts

There are four ways in particular that Infinite Giving helps with fundraising for non-cash gifts:

Stock gifts: give more, owe less

When donors give appreciated stock directly to a nonprofit, they avoid capital gains tax and can write off the full fair-market value (FMV) of the shares. Your organization receives the full value of the gift, with nothing lost to taxes along the way.

That advantage shows up in gift size. The average stock gift Infinite Giving processed in 2025 was more than $32,000.* For many donors, giving stock is the most tax-smart way to make a meaningful year-end gift. Learn more about how to accept stock donations.

Fundraising tip: make sure it's easy for donors to give stock by having "More Ways to Give" on your website. Infinite Giving also helps solve the problem of anonymous stock gifts with our Stock Donation Tracker.
‍

Crypto donations: meet donors where their wealth is

Cryptocurrency is treated as property for tax purposes, so donors who give appreciated crypto can see benefits similar to giving stock. Donors can give a full coin or just a percentage of one, which makes crypto flexible for gifts of any size.

In 2025, the average crypto gift Infinite Giving processed was more than $11,000.* Crypto gifts made through Infinite Giving are automatically converted to USD, so your team can put them to work right away. See how Infinite Giving nonprofits accept crypto gifts.

Fundraising tip: your donors don't have to give an entire Bitcoin. Consider asking if they hold crypto, and would be willing to give a percentage of the coin instead of cash.
‍

DAF gifts: tap into $326 billion set aside for charity

Donor-advised funds (DAFs) let donors set aside charitable dollars, take a tax deduction, and recommend grants to nonprofits over time. Total assets held by U.S.-based DAFs have grown to $326 billion.* That's money already earmarked for good causes, and Giving Season is when many donors decide where it goes. Read our guide to donor-advised funds.

Fundraising tip: the challenge is that DAF grants often arrive anonymously, which makes it hard to thank donors and build lasting relationships. Infinite Giving helps solve the problem of anonymous DAF grants so your team can steward every gift.

Retirement fund gifts: qualified charitable distributions (QCDs)

Donors age 70½ and older can transfer up to $111,000 from a Traditional IRA directly to a nonprofit as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD isn't counted as taxable income. For donors who must take required minimum distributions, it can also count toward that requirement.

Through our partnership with LifeLegacy, Infinite Giving nonprofits can use LifeLegacy's QCD tool, along with planned giving resources like a gift intention tool and a will-planning tool. Together, we help your team support both year-end and legacy giving. Learn more about the Infinite Giving and LifeLegacy partnership.

Fundraising tip: consider segmenting your donor database by age/demographics for the insights needed on who might be able to give a gift from a retirement account.
‍

Make asset gifts part of your Giving Season plan

Your donors may have more ways to give, but it's up to your team to discover what's possible. Start by adding stock, crypto, DAF, and QCD options to your giving page. Then mention them in your year-end appeals, so donors know these options exist before December 31.
