When a donor gives stock, it's often one of the most meaningful gifts a nonprofit receives all year. Gifts of appreciated stock tend to be larger than cash gifts. They also reflect a donor's deep trust in your mission and in your team's ability to steward their generosity well.
But the moment after a stock gift arrives matters, too. What happens to those proceeds next can shape how much good that gift ultimately does.
Today, we're excited to introduce Reinvest Stock Donations, a new Infinite Giving feature that helps nonprofits keep stock gift proceeds working. Instead of sending cash to a bank account where it may sit idle, proceeds can flow directly into an Infinite Giving Treasury portfolio and have the opportunity to earn returns until you're ready to use them.
The hidden cost of a nonprofit's idle cash
Stock gifts often arrive unexpectedly, and once they're liquidated, the proceeds usually take one of two paths:
- They sit idle. Cash lands in a checking or savings account earning little or nothing, quietly losing ground to inflation while the team decides what to do next.
- They're spent right away. Proceeds go straight into operations, even when the gift could have done more as reserves or long-term capital.
Neither path is wrong, but neither is always the best fit. Many nonprofit teams and boards tell us they want a thoughtful middle option: a safe, simple place for gift proceeds to grow until the organization is ready to put them to use.
That's what good financial stewardship looks like. It means giving every dollar a job, including the dollars you don't need yet.
Introducing Reinvest Stock Donations

Reinvest Stock Donations connects two things Infinite Giving already does well: making it easy for donors to give stock, and helping nonprofits grow their reserves. Now those two steps work together on one platform built exclusively for nonprofits.
Here's how it works:
- A donor gives stock through your Infinite Giving donation page
- Infinite Giving receives and liquidates the stock, just as we do today
- Once the stock is liquidated to cash, proceeds are routed to the designated portfolio. Options include money market, Treasury bill, fixed income, and longer-term growth portfolios
- You track the gift and its potential growth in the same Infinite Giving dashboard you already use, and you can move funds to your operating account when you need them
There's nothing for your team to configure. Our team sets up your nonprofit's stock donation reinvestment to the account you have designated. Once it's in place, there are no manual transfers to remember and no extra steps for your nonprofit's finance team.
Reinvest Stock Donations is available for stock gifts made through Infinite Giving donation pages.
What this means for your organization
If your nonprofit already uses Infinite Giving Treasury
If you already have Infinite Giving as your nonprofit investment advisor managing reserve funds, now your stock gifts can go straight there, too. With Reinvest Stock Donations, proceeds flow directly into the portfolio you already have, in line with the policy you've already set.
- Fewer manual transfers for your finance team
- Gifts, reserves, and portfolio balances reconciled in one place
- No more proceeds waiting in a bank account for someone to move them
It's also a good moment to lean on the advisory services that come with your account. Your dedicated advisor can help you decide which portfolio fits your stock gift proceeds, and your quarterly board reports will reflect how those gifts are invested.
If you use Infinite Giving donation pages
Your donation page already makes it easy for donors to give stock. Now those gifts can grow, too. When you open an Infinite Giving Treasury account, stock gift proceeds can be routed directly into a cash management account, so gifts have the opportunity to earn more than they would sitting in a checking account.
It's a simple first step into cash reserve management, starting with gifts you've already received.
Common questions
What if we need the money soon? You stay in control. Funds can be moved to your operating account when you need them because our portfolio options are designed with access in mind.
Does this apply to cash or crypto gifts? Not at this time. Reinvest Stock Donations applies to stock gifts only.
Let your gifts keep giving
Your donors chose to give stock because they believe in your mission's future. Reinvest Stock Donations helps you honor that trust by giving those gifts the chance to grow.
